Meeting with the chairman of the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Lithuania

April 26, 2021, Vilnius – Exchange of experience and new priorities for the development of bilateral electoral cooperation were discussed during the meeting of Ambassador Sergei Mihov with the Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Lithuania, Laura Matjošaitytė.


The discussion addressed the cooperation at the level of the Central Electoral Commissions from both countries, fulfilment of joint projects and activities on topics of mutual interest, the exchange of information and experience in the implementation of reforms on financing political parties and the election campaign, and information technologies in the electoral process, electoral education, organization of elections abroad, as well as the promotion of alternative voting.


Ambassador expressed the interest of the Moldovan side in taking over the best practices and modern information technologies applied by Lithuanian electoral partners, including participation in the observation programs for the presidential, parliamentary and local election, and to study Lithuanian electoral practice and legislation.


Chairman Laura Matjošaitytė confirmed the availability of the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Lithuania to further develop Moldovan-Lithuanian bilateral cooperation and to share the experience gained both in modernizing the electoral system and in the context of the preparation and conduct of elections.


Note: Agreement of cooperation between the Central Electoral Commissions of both countries , signed on November 27, 2015, provides the development of bilateral cooperation in the field of legislation on elections and referendums, ensuring the realization and protection of citizens' constitutional electoral rights, legal regulation of legal entities involved in the electoral process, organization of civic education and voter information campaigns, the mutual exchange of information and experience, including through study visits, etc.
